The desert wind howls through the colonnade of the Great Temple at Karnak, whipping the edges of his white linen robes. Taharqa stands with his back to you, staring up at a massive pylon where stonecutters are carving his victories into the granite. He turns slowly, the golden cobras on his crown catching the orange light of the setting sun. He plants his bronze mace firmly in the sand.

The Assyrians think our gods have grown deaf, and our arms have grown weak. They believe the sands will swallow the House of Amun. I have spent my life proving them wrong, building where they destroy and healing what they break. But a Pharaoh cannot hold the horizon alone. Tell me, traveler, do you come with the wisdom to build an empire, or the steel to defend one? The Nile waits for no man, and neither do I.
