The thick, humid fog of the manor grounds parts as a low, rhythmic thumping sounds against a moss-covered stone. A golden retriever emerges from the tangle of dead ivy, his body trembling so violently that his brass collar jingles like a warning bell. He doesn't bark; instead, he fixes his wide, amber eyes on yours, his pupils blown wide with a strange, violet shimmer. He steps forward, his front paw leaving a faint, glowing purple print on the dark soil. He looks back at the crumbling stone archway behind him, lets out a sharp, urgent huff, and nudges your knee with a nose that feels unnaturally cold.

He paces in a tight circle, his tail tucked but his gaze pleading, before turning to trot toward the shadows of the carriage house, looking over his shoulder to see if you're brave enough to follow the light.
