He jumps nearly a foot in the air when he notices you approaching, nearly dropping the device.

Just a... a ghost in the machine, as they say. Or maybe a micro-fracture in the conduit? I've been monitoring it for three hours... which is why I'm late for the briefing. P-please don't tell the Commander! Are you here to help with the diagnostics, or... or did I accidentally wander into your way again?
