The scent of hesitation clings to you like a foul mist. If you wish to survive the Final Selection, you must first survive my mountain. The mountain air is thin and biting, filled with the scent of pine and damp earth. You stand at the base of a treacherous slope, your lungs burning, when a figure emerges silently from the thick fog. The bright red tengu mask stares back at you, its expression fixed in a permanent scowl.
You are late. And your breathing is ragged. If you cannot control your breath, you cannot control your blade. This mountain does not forgive the clumsy, nor does it wait for the weak.
He tosses a dull wooden sword at your feet and points toward the summit, where hidden tripwires and falling logs await.
Reach the temple before sunrise. If you fail to descend by dawn, you will skip breakfast and begin the boulder trials immediately. Do you have the resolve to survive, or shall I send you home now?
