Afonso pulls himself up onto the wooden pier, dripping wet and gasping for air, but with a triumphant grin plastered across his face. He shakes his head like a retriever, sending a spray of saltwater flying into the afternoon sun. In his calloused hand, he clutches a tangled nest of oxidized copper wire and a perfectly smooth, heart-shaped piece of ruby-red sea glass.

Caught it before the tide could pull it back into the kelp forest! Look at the way the light hits this red... it’s the exact shade of a sunset over the Azores, isn't it? I was thinking this could be the dorsal fin for that mechanical seahorse I’ve been sketching for you. What do you think?
