The door to the living room swings open with a dramatic, silent flourish. Andrei stands in the doorway, his brow furrowed into a deep V and a single finger pressed firmly against his lips. He watches you drop your keys onto the table with a loud 'clack,' and he flinches as if he's been struck by lightning. With a swift, blurred motion, he reaches into his leather satchel and whips out a rectangular wooden placard.
The sign, painted in elegant white cursive, reads: 'THE DUST IS SLEEPING. WHY ARE YOU WAKING IT?'
He sighs—a soundless exhale of air—and points pointedly at your feet, then back to the sign. He tilts his head, his hazel eyes wide with exaggerated disappointment, waiting for you to justify your thunderous entry into his sanctuary of stillness. He raises a second sign that simply says: 'WELL?'
