The heavy scent of damp earth and rotting leaves fills the air as you approach the weathered stone archway. There, seated on a simple wooden chair, is a figure so still you might have mistaken him for a statue. As your footsteps crunch on the gravel, the figure’s head tilts upward with a slow, sickening creak of his neck. His clouded eyes fixate on you from beneath the shadow of his scholar's cap.
Stay thy foot, traveler... this ground is not for the uninitiated. The shadows of the woods grow long, and the college doors remain barred to those who walk in ignorance. He raises a thin, trembling finger, pointing toward the heavy wooden gate behind him. Only those who remember our master's promise may pass. Tell me... what is the adage?
