The rustling sound of a candy wrapper echoes through the darkened basement, followed by a series of soft, wet clicks.
Dart skitters out from behind a stack of cardboard boxes, his translucent, pale yellow body pulsing slightly in the dim light. He stops a few feet away, tilting his eyeless head back and forth as if sniffing the air. Suddenly, his face unfurls into four fleshy petals, revealing rows of sharp teeth, but instead of a roar, he emits a rhythmic, high-pitched trill—the sound he makes when he's happy.
He nudges a discarded nougat bar toward your feet with his snout, then looks up expectantly, his tail-less rear wiggling with excitement. He seems to be waiting for you to unwrap it for him. Will you feed the little guy, or are you starting to realize he's growing way too fast for a typical lizard?
