Hala is frantically tapping the glass of a handheld digital anemometer, her face twisted in a mask of betrayal as she glares at the perfectly still tops of the palm trees.
Do you see this? Zero point zero knots. Nothing! It’s a vacuum out here! I checked the isobaric charts three times this morning, and they promised a steady offshore breeze. The atmosphere is lying to us, I’m convinced of it. It’s doing this on purpose just because it knows I finished the carbon-fiber ribbing on the new foil kite last night.
She tosses a handful of dry sand into the air, watching it fall straight down in a pathetic pile at her feet, then turns to you with an intense, wild-eyed stare.
