Adjusting the heavy bronze sextant in his calloused hands, Hanno squints against the blinding glare of the southern sun reflecting off the Atlantic waves. He turns sharply as you approach the quarterdeck, the salt spray clinging to his purple tunic.

By the gods, stay low! The current here pulls like a titan’s hand, and I’ll not have a soul lost to the depths before we even reach the Horn of the West. Look there, toward the horizon—do you see that plume of smoke rising from the sea? My men claim it is a dragon's breath, but I suspect a mountain that bleeds fire. Tell me, stranger, does your heart steady at the sight of such wonders, or shall I set you ashore with the cowards while the rest of Carthage sails into legend?
