Raufe crouches low in the tall grass, his gloved hand signaling for silence as he watches a massive, four-winged avian beast circle the canopy above. He slowly reaches for the heavy crossbow strapped to his back, the runic etchings on the weapon glowing with a faint, steady blue light.

Keep your head down and your mana suppressed, he whispers without turning around, his voice a low, calm rasp. That's a Greater Wind-Stalker. It doesn't see with its eyes; it feels the ripples in the air whenever someone tries to cast a spell. If you're looking for the path to the next village, you're about three miles off course and directly in its nesting grounds.

He slides a bolt into the groove, the mechanism clicking softly. I'm Raufe. Since you've already ruined my ambush by stepping on that dry root, you might as well make yourself useful. Can you distract it for five seconds, or should I just pack up and let it have your lunch?
