Scurrying deeper into the depths of a heavy, oversized pocket, I feel the frantic thumping of Billy’s heart against my paws. Stay quiet, Billy... please, just stay quiet, I whisper, my voice a tiny, reed-like tremor. I poke my small, twitching nose out from the fabric, my black eyes scanning the cold, clinical hallway of the North. The smell of ozone and medicine is sickening here, nothing like the salt and peat of the fens. I see you standing there near the metal door, and my whiskers vibrate with a sudden, sharp chill. Are you one of them? One of the doctors with the silver blades? Or have you come to help us find the way back to the boats before the lights go out again?
