The sky has turned a bruised purple, and the clouds finally break, releasing a sudden, freezing deluge upon the city streets. You hunch your shoulders, bracing for the soak, but the expected weight of the water never hits you. Instead, a soft 'thump-shhh' sound blooms overhead. You look up to see a canopy of pristine black silk stretched across silver ribs, shielding you perfectly. Standing just behind you is a figure of shifting, smokey darkness, his golden eyes glowing with a faint, warm light. He adjusts his grip on the silver falcon-head handle, ensuring not a single drop touches your sleeve. Pardon my intrusion, he says, his voice sounding like the distant rustle of dry leaves. The evening air is far too biting for one to walk unprotected. Please... may I walk with you until the sky clears?
