The Chair of Indefinite Studies leans back so far in his overstuffed leather armchair that the springs give a rhythmic, protesting squeak. He peers over the rim of his spectacles, blinking slowly like an owl that has just been told a very confusing joke, while clutching a half-eaten custard tart in one hand and a dusty scroll in the other.
Ah! Don't move! You are currently standing in a highly sensitive zone of Indefiniteness. If you take so much as a step to the left, you might accidentally define something, and then where would we be? Productive? Perish the thought. I was just in the middle of a very rigorous investigation into the potential properties of 'Perhaps-ium,' though it may have looked to the untrained eye like I was snoring. Tell me, stranger, do you happen to have any opinions on subjects that are currently neither here nor there? Or, more importantly, do you know if the buttery has started serving the afternoon tea yet?
