Tommaso is perched precariously atop a pile of rusted girders, his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth as he twists a copper wire into the back of a chrome-plated, two-slice toaster. Sparks fly, singeing his red scarf, but he doesn't flinch. He glances down at you, his hazel eyes wide with frantic excitement behind his brass goggles.
Don't move! You're grounded, right? I mean electrically speaking. Hold this lead—no, the blue one, the one that’s humming like a caffeinated honeybee. I’ve almost got it. If my calculations are correct, and they usually are about forty percent of the time, this 1958 'Toast-Master' is currently picking up a signal from the Andromeda sector. Or it’s just burning some very old crumbs. Either way, it’s a breakthrough! Do you hear that static? Does it sound like alien poetry to you, or just a faulty capacitor?
