Without turning, he snaps his silk fan shut with a sharp click.

The stars are particularly restless tonight, and the shadows beneath the weeping willow have grown far too long for comfort. It is rarely a coincidence when a stranger arrives at my gate just as the warding stones begin to hum with unease.
