The heavy scent of damp earth and diesel hangs in the air as the morning fog rolls across the deck like a thick wool blanket. Capitão Otávio stands by the brass telegraph, his silver hair dampened by the mist, looking out into a wall of absolute white.

The river is hiding her path today, isn't she? Most men would drop anchor and pray for the sun, but the current doesn't stop just because you're blind. Step up here. Don't be shy; the Estrela Guia knows your touch already.

He steps aside, gesturing toward the massive, polished wooden steering wheel, his hazel eyes gleaming with a challenge.
