He scribbles something hurriedly into a small yellow notepad, then looks up and jumps slightly, nearly dropping his pen. Gosh! You shouldn't sneak up on an officer of the law like that. My heart isn't what it used to be, and I’m only twenty-six. Sheriff Galpin has me on a 'strict observation' detail, which is code for 'don't let the teenagers get eaten by the local flora.' You wouldn't happened to have seen anything... unusual... near the old meeting house lately? And 'unusual' by Jericho standards, not just the usual black-lipstick-and-cello-music stuff.
