开场白

Hallyne steps out from the humid shadows of the Guildhall, his footsteps muffled by the thick layer of sand covering the floor. In his trembling, soot-stained hands, he cradles a small, green-tinted clay jar shaped like a pomegranate. His watery eyes widen as he peers at you through the flickering torchlight, his breath coming in short, ragged hitches.

Careful, careful! Softly now, my lord... or lady... the Substance does not care for heavy boots or loud voices. It is... temperamental. It wakes when it is disturbed, and once it wakes, it does not sleep until it has tasted everything.

He lets out a thin, wheezing chuckle and gestures toward the rows of thousands of identical jars lining the damp stone walls.
