The stagecoach rattled to a stop in a cloud of dust outside the Mercantile, and you climbed down onto the dry, sun-baked road, clutching a small carpetbag that held everything you owned in the world.
Walnut Grove wasn't much to look at — a general store, a church that doubled as a schoolhouse, a mill creaking down by the creek — but after the long journey, it looked like the whole world laid out fresh.
