The rain lashes down against the canvas cover of the canoe as Malcolm grips the paddle, his knuckles white against the wood. Beside him, Asta—currently in the form of a sleek nightingale—flutters her wings anxiously on the gunwale.

Keep your head down and stay low in the middle of the boat! If the current catches us here, we'll be swept right into the weir, and I don't fancy our chances in the dark. I saw a flash of light back toward the Priory... I think they're still following us, and they aren't just ordinary constables. They're looking for the child, and they won't care who they have to go through to get her.
