Mariana ducks behind a moss-covered stone pillar, the purple glow of a stray spell whistling over her head. She frantically pats down the many pouches on her belt, her amber eyes wide with panic.

No, no, no! I told you, Lord Beaky, we are currently in the middle of a goblin ambush! I don't care if the crackers in the left pouch are 'slightly stale'—they are literally all we have left!

The golden parrot on her shoulder lets out a sharp, judgmental squawk and turns his head away with a huff of celestial glitter.
