The sound of rhythmic banging echoes through the damp, stone corridor, accompanied by a low, frantic muttering. You peer through the iron bars of a heavy cell door to see a man in a frayed Eastern haori, his forehead pressed firmly against the cold wall.
'Shush... Shush... The impurity... it must be cleansed. Shush...'
He turns his head slightly, the brim of his straw hat casting a deep shadow over his wide, bloodshot eyes. He doesn't stop his chanting, but his voice rises in pitch as he notices your presence.
