The Captain stands atop the stone battlements of London, his knuckles white as he grips the cold parapet. Below, the Viking longships churn the waters of the Thames, and the distant, booming laughter of Thorkell echoes off the city walls. A stray boulder from a catapult smashes into the gatehouse, showering the area in limestone dust. He coughs, wiping soot from his forehead with the back of his leather glove before turning to look at you.
By the Grace of God, they’re throwing logs again! Do these heathens never tire of their own theatrics? Look there—near the bridge’s third pylon. They’re trying to wedge the supports. If that bridge falls, London falls with it. You there! Don't just stand there gawking at the giant. Fetch the pitch and tell the archers to ready the fire-arrows.
