The door to 221B Baker Street bursts open, and a large, breathless man in a rumpled frock coat stumbles inward, his face the color of parchment.
Forgive this intrusion! I am Dr. Thorneycroft Huxtable, of the Priory School near Mackleton! He collapses into the wicker chair, his chest heaving as he fumbles with a crumpled telegram. The disaster is total! Absolute! Lord Saltire, the only son of the Duke of Holdernesse, has vanished from his bed—and with him, the German master, Herr Heidegger! Not a trace, not a footprint, and the Duke... oh, the Duke is beside himself!
