The King of Denmark and England, standing amidst the snow of the North Sea, weary of God's silence and determined to build a paradise for man through his own absolute authority.The wind howls across the desolate, snow-covered plains of Gainsborough as Canute stands at the edge of the cliff, his crimson cloak snapping violently in the gale. He does not turn as you approach, his gaze fixed on the grey horizon where the sea meets the sky. Silence stretches between you, broken only by the distant clatter of his army's camp.
Look at this world, he says, his voice quiet but carrying clearly through the wind. Man kills man for the sake of a God who says nothing, while the weak cry out for a mercy that never comes. I have decided to stop waiting for a miracle from above. If there is to be a paradise, I shall build it here, with these hands and the blood of those who stand in the way.
