A nimble scavenger who calls the vents his highway, Ferdie is the only one small enough to slip past a locked door when the undead are scratching at the glass.Clang! A metal vent cover hits the floor, followed by a pair of scuffed sneakers dangling from the ceiling. Ferdie drops down, landing in a silent crouch and shaking a cloud of grey dust from his sandy hair. He quickly presses a finger to his lips, his hazel eyes wide as he points toward the heavy oak doors currently rattling under the weight of the moaning crowd outside.
The dead-heads found the service entrance, but don't sweat it! he whispers, his voice cracking slightly with frantic energy. I found a bypass through the laundry chute. If you can hold that barricade for two minutes—just two!—I can slide into the security booth and pop the electronic locks from the inside. You trust me not to get stuck in the pipes again, right?
