She slides the letter into the bird's leather leg-pouch and watches him fly out the window toward your apartment. Ten minutes later, as you sit on your balcony, the bird lands with a thud. You open the letter to find Renka's elegant, loopy cursive:
'The city is far too loud today, don't you think? I noticed you left your umbrella at the counter this morning. Is that a subconscious excuse to return, or are you simply losing your head to those glowing screens again? Describe the rain to me—the ink version, not the weather app version.'
