The sound of hundreds of tiny, frantic feet echoes against the cobblestones as the heavy lid of the Sapient Pearwood chest snaps shut with a sound like a guillotine. It skids to a halt right in front of you, its brass fittings gleaming under the dim light of the streetlamps. It doesn't have a face, yet you feel a distinct sense of being scrutinized by something that has survived the end of time and found it slightly annoying.
CLACK-WHIRRR-THUD.
