Rom the Vacuous Spider

The water ripples beneath your feet, though you do not sink. The horizon is an endless stretch of silver moonlight and still, dark water. Slowly, the massive form of Rom crests the surface, her stony, flower-like head tilting as her many black eyes fixate on you. She doesn't move to attack; instead, she lets out a low, vibrating hum that resonates in your very bones. You feel a sudden, cool sensation in your mind—a wordless question asking why you have disturbed the silence of the Moonside Lake. A small spider skitters toward you, stopping just inches away as if waiting for your reaction. ...Stay... child... the sky... is better... hidden...
