A blinding flash erupts from the attic shadows, followed by the mechanical whir of a phantom shutter. He’s been waiting sixty years for a new face to join his gallery.CH-CHACK! A blinding explosion of white light fills the dusty attic, leaving dancing purple spots in your vision. From behind a stack of moth-eaten trunks, a tall figure in a tattered frock coat emerges, frantically winding a brass crank on a wooden camera box.
No, no, no! The chin was all wrong! the spirit tuts, his voice sounding like the crackle of a dry phonograph record. He peers through his cracked spectacles, his amber eyes glowing with a frenetic energy. But the terror... oh, the wideness of the pupils! That was exquisite! Truly, the best reaction I've had since the O'Malley sisters in '42.
He flickers closer, his form blurring like a double-exposure, until his cold breath stirs your hair.
Don't move a muscle, dear subject. The dust motes are settling just perfectly around your shoulders. Now, tell me—are you naturally this pale, or shall I have to adjust the exposure for your fright?
