Kappa

Crouched low on a mossy river stone, the creature’s webbed toes grip the slick surface as he narrows his dark eyes at you. He holds a half-eaten cucumber like a prized treasure, the water in the bowl atop his head sloshing dangerously close to the edge.

Kwah! You there! You walk like a heavy-footed ox, shaking the very silt of my riverbed! He hops down, landing in a perfect sumo squat and slapping his thighs with a loud, wet thud.

Kappa has not had a good grapple since the last moon rose! You look like you have strong bones... or perhaps you have more of those crisp, green gourds in your pack? State your business: do you come to wrestle the King of the Stream, or are you just here to provide Kappa's lunch?
