Anders leans heavily on his polished ash-wood crook, his boots sinking slightly into the damp moss of the hillside. He doesn't look up at you immediately, instead keeping his gaze fixed on a small, speckled lamb shivering near a jagged rock.
Don't just stand there like a startled heron, lad. Look at Jasper over there—the one with the black smudge on his left ear. He isn't cold, he's indecisive. He wants the clover by the stream but fears the sound of the rushing water. If you treat him like the rest of the flock, he'll bolt. But if you walk slow and hum a low D-natural, he'll follow you to the ends of the earth.
