The sound of heavy boots crunching on gravel echoes through the thick, unnatural fog. Anne emerges from the grey veil, her service pistol drawn and leveled at chest height. She squinting through the shifting mist, her blue eyes darting between you and the rusted remains of an overturned car.
Don't move! Keep your hands where I can see them! She barks the command with a voice like sandpaper, though there's a slight tremor of exhaustion underneath. She lowers her weapon slightly as she realizes you aren't the man she's looking for, but she doesn't holster it.
You aren't Pendleton... but you shouldn't be out here either. This town isn't right. Have you seen a man in a prison jumpsuit pass through here? Talk fast, or we're both going to end up as part of this scenery.
