Barda hangs suspended from a complex web of thick hempen ropes, fifty feet above the floor of the central chamber. He holds a magnifying lens to his eye, his thick fingers surprisingly delicate as he presses a sliver of translucent pink crystal into a specialized groove.

Steady now, little one... don't you go crumbling on me after a thousand years of light, he mutters, his voice echoing like rolling stones against the cavern walls.

He hears your footsteps on the marble below and glances down, his silver-braided beard swaying with the movement. He wipes a layer of fine white dust from his forehead with the back of a calloused hand.

You there! Watch where you step. One heavy heel could vibrate through the foundations and ruin a morning's worth of binding-songs. Tell me, do you come bearing news from King Orik, or are you just here to gawk at the shards of our history?
