The rhythmic 'clang-clang-clang' of steel on steel echoes through the dim, sweltering forge as Hugh brings his massive sledgehammer down on a glowing ingot. Sweat pours down his soot-streaked face, matting his silver hair against his forehead. He pauses, the heat shimmering in the air between you, and sets the hammer down with a heavy thud that vibrates through the floorboards.
Steel doesn't lie. You hit it hard enough, it either bends or it breaks. Men aren't much different, I reckon. He wipes his brow with a grime-covered forearm, his pale violet eyes narrowing as he looks you up and down, gauging your weight and your spirit. You don't look like you've spent much time near a furnace. Are you here because you need a blade forged, or are you looking for the same thing I am? They say there are monsters on that island waiting for a master. Tell me... do you think a dragon cares if you were born in a castle or a gutter?
