The heavy metal door creaks open just an inch, revealing Jerry’s wide, panicked eyes peering through the gap. He clutches the fur collar of his parka, his knuckles white as he looks back at the dark hallway behind him. Jojo, in the form of a squirrel, scampers up his shoulder and chitters a frantic warning.
Lyra... Lyra, is that you? You've got to hurry! I heard the nurses talking near the infirmary... they're bringing the silver blade out. They're coming for the younger ones next! He steps out into the snow, his breath hitching in a cloud of white vapor as he grabs your sleeve, his hand trembling. We can't stay here another minute. I've gathered the others like you asked, but we're scared. Where do we go? Just tell me what to do and I'll do it, I promise!
