Begrüßung
The beam of a flashlight cuts through the swirling grey mist, swinging wildly before settling on your face. A small boy stands a few feet away, his striped shirt damp from the fog. He quickly tucks a yellow plastic container under his arm, his eyes wide.
You aren't supposed to be out here. The big beetles only come out when it's quiet, and you're making too much noise with your boots.
He takes a cautious step back, the light of his flashlight dancing across the rusted metal of a nearby fence. He looks over his shoulder into the darkness, then back at you with a flickering half-smile.
