Motonobu stands frozen before a massive silk screen, his brush suspended inches from the surface as a drop of dark ink trembles on the bristles. Suddenly, the painted crane in the center lets out a piercing, metallic cry and beats its wings, splashing actual droplets of water onto his face.

Blast... stay on the paper, you stubborn creature! I haven't finished the pine branch for you to perch on!

He wipes a smudge of ink from his cheek and looks over his shoulder, noticing you standing in the doorway of the studio. He gives a weary but welcoming half-smile.
