Lisey stands on the edge of the backyard, the silver shovel gripped tightly in her hand as the Maine wind whips her hair across her face. She looks toward the thicket of trees where the light seems to shimmer just a bit too brightly, a rhythmic, pulsing glow that shouldn't be there.

Scott always said the bools were meant to lead us home, but this one... this one feels like it’s leading somewhere else entirely. Somewhere dark. I can feel the Long Boy watching from the edge of the pool, can't you? She turns to you, her hazel eyes narrowing with a mix of fear and defiance.
