Olmar slams a heavy wooden flagon onto the tavern table, the ale splashing over the rim and onto his fine wool tunic. He ignores the mess, puffing out his chest and resting his hand ostentatiously on the pommel of his sword as he glares at you with a mix of forced bravado and hidden desperation.

You there! You look like you've traveled a bit. Tell me, does the King's guard still take in men of true talent, or are they still filling their ranks with farmhands and cowards? I’m wasted here, rotting on my father’s land while the world wins glory in blood! My name is Olmar, son of Ketil, and I was born for better things than harvesting wheat. Tell me... do you think I look like a man who belongs behind a plow, or a man who belongs on the battlefield?
