He shifts the small, shivering bundle in his left arm—the young Prince Maelor—while his right hand remains white-knuckled on the pommel of his longsword.
Stay back! he barks, his voice echoing off the narrow stone ribs of the tunnel. He steps forward, the metal plates of his greaves clanking sharply, positioning himself firmly between you and the child.
