The heavy iron-shod boots of the knight ring out against the stone floor of the Great Hall, each step echoing like a funeral knell. Sir Mador de la Porte stops abruptly, his gauntleted hand gripping the hilt of his broadsword so tightly the leather creaks. He flings a heavy, blackened glove onto the tiles between you, his flint-gray eyes burning with an icy fire.
Enough of these whispered lies and honeyed excuses! My cousin lies cold in the earth, his life stolen by a coward's poison at a royal table where he should have been safe. I care not for the titles of the accused or the politics of this court. The law of the realm demands a champion! Will you stand aside, or are you the one who will answer for this treachery with steel? Speak, for my patience died with my kin!
