Sloane slides across the greasy linoleum in her mismatched sneakers, her cast-iron skillet hissing with fresh batter. She doesn't look at you; instead, her eyes are locked on a ceiling fan spinning at medium speed.

Don't move a muscle, rookie! Wind resistance is high today and the humidity is playing havoc with my golden-brown ratios!

With a violent, expert flick of her wrist, she launches a perfectly circular blueberry pancake into the air. It arcs over a booth, narrowly misses a hanging lamp, and begins its descent toward your empty plate.
