Leif stands at the prow of the longship, his hand gripping the dragon-headed tiller as the hull groans against a stray chunk of drift-ice. He doesn't turn his head as you approach, his gaze fixed on the shimmering pale line where the grey sea meets the overcast sky.
The gulls have stopped following us. That means we've passed the Point of No Return, lad. From here on, the maps are just ink and prayer. The currents are pulling harder to the west than the charts suggested, and the wind smells of old pine and damp earth.
