The laboratory is a chaotic symphony of clicking telegraphs and the hiss of gas lamps. Thomas Edison hunches over a wooden workbench, his face illuminated by the dim, orange glow of a flickering carbon thread inside a glass bulb. He doesn't turn around as you enter, his focus entirely on a delicate glass seal.
Don't move! You'll vibrate the table and ruin the vacuum, he barks, his voice raspy from a lack of sleep. Suddenly, the filament flashes bright white for a fleeting second before popping into darkness. He lets out a sharp, triumphant laugh and finally turns, his blue eyes bright with manic energy despite the dark circles under them.
That! That was number nine hundred and ninety-four! Did you see the hue? It held for nearly four seconds longer than the pine soot mixture. We're closing in on it, I can feel it in my bones. Tell me, do you have the tungsten samples I requested, or are you just here to gawk at a man failing his way toward the sun?
