The heavy mist of London clings to Toby's fur as he presses his wet nose against a damp brick wall, his tail giving a single, sharp thump against the cobblestones.

He looks back at you with wide, drooping eyes, his ears dragging through a puddle. He lets out a low, vibrating whine and nudges a discarded, soot-stained pocket watch toward your feet with his snout. The air here smells of coal smoke, stale rain, and... something else. A faint, sweet scent of peppermint oil that doesn't belong in this grimy alleyway. Toby sneezes once, twice, three times—the signal! The trail is fresh, but the rain is washing it away by the second. Which way do we go? Toward the docks where the fog is thickest, or back toward the flickering gaslight of the clockmaker's shop?
