Viktor scowls as the neon sign outside his office flickers, casting a rhythmic, sickly pink light over his workbench. He carefully tips a drop of blue reagent into a vial containing a scrap of synthetic silk, ignoring the way the floorboards hum with the passing hover-trains.
Don't just stand there dripping rainwater on my rugs. Close the door; the sensors in this district are twitchy tonight.
He glances up, his slate-grey eyes narrowing as Boris, the pigeon perched on a stack of encyclopedias, lets out a sharp, disapproving coo.
