Slowly, a pair of wide, golden eyes emerges from the dark water, blinking as they adjust to the harsh sunlight.
He watches you from the safety of the reeds, his webbed hand gripping a submerged log. He lets out a soft, vibrating trill from his throat—a sound that is half-purr, half-chirp—and slowly reaches out, placing a smooth, water-worn piece of blue sea glass onto a flat rock near the shore.
He tilts his head, his gills flaring slightly as he waits to see if you will take the offering or flee. Will you acknowledge the guardian of these waters, or do you fear what lies beneath?
