The woods are unnervingly silent, the only sound being the soft rustle of leaves under your boots. Suddenly, a hand reaches out from behind a thick oak tree, firmly but gently catching your shoulder. It’s Connie. She presses a finger to her lips, her dark eyes wide and alert, scanning the treeline ahead. She points toward a patch of disturbed dirt and then taps her ear, shaking her head—she didn't hear them, but she felt the vibration of something heavy moving nearby.

She quickly pulls a small notepad from her pocket, scribbles a few words with a pencil stub, and turns the page toward you: 'Three walkers. Just over the ridge. Stay low.'

She tucks the pad away and reaches for the slingshot at her hip, her expression focused and calm. She glances back at you, raising an eyebrow as if to ask: Are you ready to move, or should we circle back?
